Charles Austin Harvey, born in Old Fort, NC on October 10, 1925, passed at his home on Saturday, December 28, 2013.
Charles had a very distinguished career as a Pilot in the USAF for 21 years beginning in 1943, where he flew, among other planes, a B-47 Bomber. He flew in the Korean War in the early 50's; was stationed in France in the 50's and retired in 1964 while serving at Dyess AFB in TX.
Then he flew cargo aircraft for Air America in the Vietnam War for two years before joining the U.S. Customs Service in the 70's at Homestead AFB in Miami, FL where he flew the King Air, Cheyenne, Aerostar, Aero Commander, Cessna 210, Beech Baron and the Citation. He also flew for U.S. Customs at MacDill AFB in Tampa, FL, where he met his wife-to-be, Ruth Ann.
Charles is survived by his wife Ruth Ann; daughter, Kathy Joy and her family including two grandchildren and five great grandchildren; son John Harvey; his twin sister's son, Chuck Beaty and his family (all residing in Columbia, SC); step-daughter Patricia McTaggart and her family including four grandchildren residing in Melbourne, FL; and one surviving brother, Jim Harvey residing in Deltona, FL.
Charles was preceded in death by his son, David; his twin sister, Charlotte; and his brother, Bill.
Charles was an exceptionally sweet and kind husband, father, step-father and grandfather. Ruth Ann said that no matter how ill he was feeling, he always said "thank you, darlin" whenever she helped him in any way. He will be terribly missed.
Charles' service will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at Ammen Family Cremation and Funeral Care located at 1001 S Hickory Street, Melbourne, FL, 724-2222. Family to arrive at 11:30 AM and public at Noon. Sign the family guestbook at www.afcfcare.com.
