Pearl Reid Obituary

Pearl Reid

Sunday morning March 13th, 2016 Pearl R. Reid died peacefully at Holmes Hospital. In August, 2015 she had a stroke which caused her to leave her residence at Glenbrook Apartments and move to Life Care Center of Palm Bay.

Pearl was born in Jamaica then British West Indies. After becoming a licensed registered nurse in Jamaica she migrated to New York in the early 1950s.  With a thirst for knowledge and a fierce ambition she pursued and earned two masters degrees from New Jersey City University. This allowed her to advance in her career and she retired in 1989 as a nurse administrator.

While in New York she and her fellow nurses formed and managed a non-profit organization which provided scholarships to deserving nursing students and medical aid to underserved areas in the West Indies.  She was also an active participant in her church.

When she retired she and her husband, Lewis L. Reid (deceased) moved to Turkey Creek, Palm Bay.  They became active supporting members of Peace Lutheran Church. Pearl was a full member of the church community, she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, was the nurse for vacation bible school for years.  A few years ago she changed her church affiliation and moved to Joy Lutheran Church.

Her hobbies included, learning new things and skills, traveling, reading (she loved John Grisham), and shopping.

She is survived by her brother Wilbert Ashley, Atlanta, Ga. Nephews, nieces, goddaughter, grandnephews and nieces, cousins, dear friends.
