Virginia Newsome Crawford, age 83, of Melvin, widow of Delzie Crawford, passed away Thursday, February 13, 2014 at the Pikeville Medical Center.
Mrs. Crawford was born October 26, 1930 in Melvin, to the late John B. and Matilda McCoy Newsome. She was a dedicated, loving Christian mother, homemaker, a proud supportive wife of her late union coal miner husband, a former nurse at Pikeville Methodist Hospital and a longtime member of the Church of Christ at Melvin. She dearly lover her "church" family.
She is survived by two daughters: Linda Dianne (Larry) Tackett, Melvin, KY, and Jolene Crawford, Melvin, KY, special daughter/sister-in-law: Lucille Crawford, Hager Hill, KY, grandson Brent (Jenny) Tackett, Melvin; brothers: Otis (Vena) Newsome, Charlotte, MI and Freddie (Nancy) Newsome, Charlotte, MI, sisters: Mary Katherine (Harold) Bailey, Coryton, TN and Patricia (Lowell) Martin, Langley, KY, many nephews nieces and two grand doggies; Mimi and Dottie.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter; Karen Crawford; daughter; Annette Crawford, stepmother; Della Newsome, brothers; William Clifford, Marcus, Herbert, Cecil, Arthur, Forest, Roland, Sterlon and Archie Newsome and sisters; Edith Newsome, Lillian Ryan, Ella Mitchell and Vanecie Tackett.
Funeral service for Virginia Crawford were held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 18, at Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with Church of Christ Ministers; Eddie Hughes, Ralph Kilgore and Eddie Hurley officiating. Burial followed in the Buckingham Cemetery, located on KSR 122 between Wheelwright/Bypro junction and Hi Hat.
