Jack L. Salyers, age 59, of Hueysville, formerly of Knott County, passed away Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at the Pikeville Medical Center, after a long illness.
He was a member of the Hueysville Church of Christ, James W. Alley Masonic Lodge #869 and Hadassah #575 Order of the Eastern Star.
Jack was a retired funeral director. He went to work in the funeral service in 1973, in Hindman, with Casebolt-Hoskins-Cox Funeral Home, and in 1982 started with Justice Funeral Home, in Pikeville, and in 1994 with Hall Funeral Home, in Martin. He served as Deputy Coroner in both Knott County and Pike County for several years. He graduated from Garrett High School in 1972 and from the Kentucky School of Embalming in 1976.
He is survived by a daughter, Amanda Brooke (Bryan) Lafferty; a son, Joshua Morgan Salyers; a granddaughter, Brianna Brooke Lafferty; and two sisters, Rosie Novy and Debbie Keating.
Funeral services for Jack L. Salyers will be held at noon, Wednesday, Nov. 27, at the Hueysville Church of Christ, with Buddy Ford and Chester Varney officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain Memory Gardens, in Hindman.
Friends may call for visitation at the Hindman Funeral Services Chapel after 6 p.m., Monday, with Masonic and Eastern Star Services at 7 p.m., and after 6 p.m., Tuesday, with singing services at 7 p.m.
