George Dewey Thacker, 81, of Flat Gap, died Friday, Nov. 8, 2013, at Thomas Memorial Hospital, in Charleston, W.Va.
Born April 16, 1932, in Pike County, to the late Thomas and Allie Huffman Thacker, he was a retired logger and a U.S. Army veteran.
He is survived by a son-in-law, Jim Keen, of Flat Gap; a brother, Earnest Thacker, of Millard; four sisters, Vera Fryer, of Sanford, Fla., Vivian Garrett, of Toccoa, Ga., and Hazel Coleman and Susie Fowler, both of Wilmington, Ohio; two grandchildren, Barbara (William) Preston and Jennifer (Allen) VanHoose; and four great grandchildren, Dylan Blanton, Sandra Blanton, Kaylee VanHoose and Katrina VanHoose.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Keen; three brothers, Jesse, Thomas Jr. and Frank Thacker; and a sister, Rhoda Chancy.
Funeral services for George Dewey Thacker will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 13, at Nelson Frazier Funeral Home, in Martin. Burial will follow in the Keen Cemetery, at Flat Gap.
Visitation will be after 6 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home.
