Mable Doris Martin Welch

Mable Doris Martin Welch, of Mechanicsville, Md., died May 2, 2014, from complications of dementia.

She was the daughter of the late Reb and Lucy Martin, of Dema. She was born Jan. 11, 1934, at Wayland, where she attended both elementary and high school. She graduated from Wayland High School in June 1952.

Following high school graduation she went to work for the courthouse in Prestonsburg until 1956. She then worked for the Federal Government in Washington, D.C., where she met and married her future husband, George L. Welch, on Jan. 5, 1957. Jan. 5, 2014, was their 57th wedding anniversary.

She delighted in returning to Kentucky for family gatherings on Thanksgiving and Christmas and for the bi-annual Wayland school reunions, where she reminisced with old school friends. What she cherished the most was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, George Sr.; sons, George Jr. and Gary Welch; grandsons, Michael and Matthew Welch; granddaughters, Lauren, Jenna, Morgan and Reagan Welch; brothers, Charles and Wade Martin; sister, Joyce Ratliff; plus numerous nephews and nieces.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by brothers, Paul and Forrest Martin, and sister, Gwen Barnett.

Services were held May 8, at the Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, located in Charlotte Hall, Md. Interment followed on May 9, at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Bryantown, Md.
