AUBURN - Hughes Palen, age 92, of 3 Saint Anthony St.,Auburn passed away peacefully Wednesday (January 2, 2013) at Auburn Community Hospital.

There are no services or calling hours as were Hughes requests to have himself donated to SUNY Upstate Medical Research, to help further the study of medical research.
He was born in Philadelphia, Penn. the son of the late Arthur and Jean Hughes Palen . He resided in Schenectady, N.Y. for most of his early life. Upon completing college at St. Lawrence University in 1942 with a Bachelor's degree of Science and Math, he starting working for Sylvania Electronics in Emporium, Penn. He continued to work for Sylvania, later named Phillips Electronics, in Seneca Falls, for more than 30 years. Hughes loved to travel over the years, especially throughout Europe. Hughes was an avid Syracuse and Penn State University football and basketball fan. His true passion has always been skiing. Most weekends and holidays were spent in New York and Vermont. He visited his family each year for ski vacations in Colorado, but his favorite area was Alta, Utah, which he tried to visit at least twice a year.
He is survived by a beloved sister, Lois (Kenneth) Wolf of Sleepy Hollow; a niece, Pamela (Stephan) Baden of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; and a great-niece and grea-t nephew, Alexis and Nikolas Baden.
