Geneva - Joseph J. Lucia, 86, died December 28, 2013, at Strong Memorial Hospital following a short illness. A celebration of Joe's life will be held with a Memorial service at the Zion Lutheran Church, 18 Snell Road, Geneva, N.Y., on Saturday, January 25, 2014, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church.
He was born June 16, 1927 in Chicago Heights, Ill.; son of Rose & James Lucia. Joe served during WWII in the US Armed Forces, enlisting at the age of 17. Following his service, he attended Michigan State University and graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He had a long distinguished career with the New York State Electric and Gas Company, retiring in 1987. Joe was very active in several community organizations, and was one of the founding fathers of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Endwell, N.Y. He remained active with the Lutheran Church in each community he resided. Joe was a leader of the United Way in Endicott and also served as Chairman of the Seneca County United Way. In addition, he was a longtime member of the Rotary Club. An avid sports enthusiast, Joe loved to bowl and had a passion for golf.
He is survived by his three brothers, Thomas, James and John as well as two sons, Joseph and John, their spouses Janene and Jeanette, along with six grandchildren and two great- grandchildren.
Joe was a loving husband, father and devoted family man. He was married to his beloved and best friend Marie (Nelson) for 48 years before her death in 1998. He was also predeceased by his second wife, Elizabeth Sniffen.
Joe was a compassionate and loving man who will be sorely missed.
