REYNOLDSVILLE - Roger C. Church, age 64 of Reynoldsville, died unexpectedly on Thursday (March 7, 2013).
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday (March 13) at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 South Main Street in Ovid. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday (March 14) at the funeral home with Pastor Jim Yao of the Lodi Presbyterian Church officiating. It is intended that prayers of committal will be held at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington DC.
In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation in Roger's memory to the , , Boy Scouts of America or the United Service Organizations (USO).
Roger was born in Kansas City, Kan. on November 18, 1948, the only son of the late Robert C. and Lavina R. (Rogers) Church. He proudly earned the honor of Eagle Scout through his many years as a Boy Scout as a teenager. He was a career Army veteran, first serving in Vietnam and continued his career with the Army. He retired as a Staff Sergeant from Seneca Army Depot in Romulus in 1988. Following his retirement he worked as a stockman at Wal-Mart in Watkins Glen, and most recently at BJ's Wholesale Club in Ithaca. Roger was a life member of the VFW Post #6200 in Ovid, and a former member of American Legion Post #462 in Ovid.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Deanna L. Church; his sister, Carol Brown and her family of Wichita, Kan.; his sons, Christopher and Jason; his mother and father-in-law, Debbie (Ken) Hohwald of Lodi; his father-in-law, Charles L. Thomas of Waterloo; Deanna's siblings, Christina, Paula, Carlotta and Richard.
Roger was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Juanita Thomas; and Deanna's brother, Charles Thomas Jr.
