Carolyn was born on June 19, 1941, to Robert and Ruth Pierce. She grew up on the family farm in Hopewell, N.Y., and graduated from Clifton Springs High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Hal Willson, who was born just hours after Carolyn. Their birth announcements were next to each other in their hometown newspaper.
When Hal joined the U.S. Navy, after graduating from high school, Carolyn took on the role of a Navy wife and mother. She created loving homes and made lifelong friendships during tours in various cities along the East Coast and in Spain. After Hal retired in 1980, he and Carolyn returned to upstate New York, first living in Seneca Castle and then in Hopewell. Carolyn returned to school and earned her LPN. She worked in a hospital and then used her training in a day-care center. Carolyn also served as a deputy town clerk in Hopewell.
Family was an important part of Carolyn's life. She and Hal had two children, whom she adored. She deeply loved her grandchildren, parents, her four siblings and their families and her extended family and friends. Carolyn and Hal enjoyed traveling in retirement, visiting family and friends in Ohio, Iowa, Arizona, Florida, North Carolina and other states as well as Canada. They also took several driving trips around the country and enjoyed sailing on cruise ships. In 2008, Carolyn and Hal moved to Bettendorf, Iowa, to live with their daughter, Kathy, and her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy (Dan) Bowerman of Bettendorf; her son, Scott (Colleen) Willson of Scottsdale, Ariz.; her grandchildren, Alyssa, Ashley, Zachary and Alexander; her mother, Ruth Pierce; her sisters, Joan (Charlie) Brown, Ellen (Don) Miller; her brothers, Robert Pierce Jr. and David (Carol) Pierce; a sister-in-law, Linda Norsen; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harold A. Willson and her father, Robert Pierce Sr.
