PENN YAN - Dorothy F. (Petersen) Covert of Penn Yan passed away on Wednesday (November 16th, 2011) after a brief illness.

A private service in celebration of Dorothy's life will be held at the convenience of the family. Friends and family are invited to the Penn Yan Moose Lodge on Tuesday (November 22nd, 2011) at 2 p.m. for a continuation of the celebration.

Dorothy was born on March 26, 1922, in the Town of Benton to Alma (Nelson) and Christian Petersen. She was a homemaker and retired in 1985 from the Super Duper in Penn Yan. Dorothy was a wonderful and loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Gifford Jensen, Allen (Cindy) Covert, Curtiss (Michele) Covert, Pam (Jim Swarthout) Strong, Mary Davis with whom she lived for the last eight years, Bryan (Deb) Covert, Greg (Song) Covert; 15 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren whom she adored. She is also survived by her sister, Elsie Anderson; brother and sister-in-law, Clifford (Barbara) Petersen and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Art and Beth Meyers; several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, James F. Covert on September 22, 2004; and her grandson, Robert Strong on March 27, 1974.
