Carolyn's family is deeply woven in the fabric of the community of Seneca Falls, her father's family founding the pump company and her maternal grandfather serving as the Rector of Trinity Episcopal Church for 36-years.
Carolyn was born at Geneva General Hospital and was raised at her grandmother's home at 63 State Street for her first two years, after which her father moved her family to the Philadelphia area.
After graduating from high school, Carolyn attended Marjorie Webster Junior College where she graduated with a degree in retailing. She continued her course work in legal studies. Carolyn worked in retailing for decades while she expressed her creativity as a freelance decorator in residences and stores. She also professionally decorated homes for Christmas in many Philadelphia mainline communities. She volunteered for a half-way house in their domestic violence program, at a rape crisis council where she served as a facilitator and in legal support, and at a local elementary school where she assisted children in their reading program.
Carolyn loved to dance! She trained in ballet, jazz and tap dance as a child, and rocked out on the dance floor as an adult! She even played the cello! Trained in lip reading as a child, she loved to translate the verbal battles between an umpire and ball players on TV! She loved croquet, windsurfing and her devoted dog, Max! Carolyn loved to water ski on Cayuga Lake and was notorious for her ability to come home from church and without changing her clothes, slip on the skis and take off from the dock, landing back there without getting her dress wet! She found solace and joy walking on the beach near her home in Hilton Head, gathering shells, starfish and sand dollars along the way. Above all, Carolyn was devoted to family and especially her son, Russell, who tops the list she created of "The Things I am Proud Of." Carolyn was the daughter of the late Seabury Smith Gould IV and Elizabeth Loomis Gould, both of whom were raised in Seneca Falls.
She is survived by her son; Russell Boulton Alexander, of Philadelphia, Penn., her three sisters; Barbara Gould Pelowski, Linda Gould Faber and Nancy Elizabeth Gould, all of Ohio and her brother; Seabury S. Gould V of Eureka, Calif. She is also survived by two nieces; Elizabeth Clarke Pelowski Isaacson, and Gita Gould Menasco, two nephews; Justin Seabury Gould and Luke Seabury Rodehorst, and two grand nephews; Noah and James Isaacson.
