Newark - Susan Beth Benedict, 66, entered eternity on Thursday (February 21, 2013) at Clifton Springs Hospital.
There will be no prior calling hours. Family and friends may attend a Memorial Service on Thursday (March 7) at 7 p.m. at Park Presbyterian Church, Maple Court, Newark.

Sue was born the daughter of the late Gordon and Bertha (Vis) VanWyk on Thursday, June 13, 1946 in Hartford, Conn. She graduated from the American School in Japan in 1964 and then received her bachelor's degree from Hope College in 1968. Following college, she taught English abroad in Japan. Sue most recently was a tutor at the Midlakes Schools.
Sue was a member of the Park Presbyterian Church in Newark and was involved with the Choir and Bell Choir. She also sang with the Canaltown Chorale. Quilting, gardening and crafts were just some of the things Sue enjoyed. Sue was a member of the Breast Cancer Support Group and a past volunteer of the Victims Resource Center.
Sue will be remembered by her sons, Todd (Denise) Benedict of Penn., Jason Benedict of Texas and Ian (Amber) Benedict of Newark; daughters, Shannon Benedict of Fla., twins, Jana (Andre) Benedict-Karjohn of Albany and Cara Benedict of Fla.; grandchildren, Nolan and Braylan Benedict; brothers, Jud of R.I. and Jim (Lisa) VanWyk of Mich.; sisters, Rev. Nancy (Rev. David) Phillips of Penn., Pat (Jim) Bartlett of Ind. and Julie (John) Clough of Mich.; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Sue was predeceased by her loving husband, Gerard on May 12, 2012; and their son, Brendan in 1977.
