Seneca Falls/Waterloo - Betty Jane Cross, 86, formerly of Seneca Falls, died Tuesday (June 11, 2013) at Geneva General Hospital in Geneva. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday (June 14) at Coe-Genung Funeral Home in Waterloo. The service will be 12 p.m. Friday (June 14) at the funeral home. Rev. William Somerville, retired pastor of Midler Wesleyan Church in Syracuse, will officiate. Burial will be in Restvale Cemetery in Seneca Falls.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to North Seneca Ambulance, 1645 North Rd, Waterloo, 13165.
Betty was born November 16, 1926, in Seneca Falls, the daughter of William Edward and Carrie Ann Spooner Cross. She was a 1945 graduate of Mynderse Academy in Seneca Falls. While a high school student she began working part-time for State Bank of Seneca Falls. She was employed at the bank until she and her husband began to have a family. She worked for the Seneca Falls School District as a cashier for the cafeteria while her children were young. Later, she returned to State Bank of Seneca Falls, now known as Bank of America, retiring as an Internal Control Auditor. She also worked beside her husband for many years, as a partner, at Cross Tax Service, until closing the office in 2008. Betty was a member of First Baptist Church in Seneca Falls, for many years. She was a member of the Seneca Falls Chapter of the Rebekahs and the Order of Eastern Stars. She and her husband loved to camp and was an avid bowler.
She is survived by her daughter, Margaret "Peggy" (Robert) Parker of Seneca Falls; her son, William (Katheryn) Cross of Gabriel; five grandchildren, Jennifer Dressing, William K. (Stacy) Cross, III, David (Beth) Cross, Roberta (Oscar) Yuan, and Jason Parker; six great-grandchildren, Joycelyn Dressing, Andrew Dressing, Alexis Cross, William K. Cross, IV, Katelyn Cross, and Logan Yuan; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, William K. Cross, Sr.; brother, Edward Cross; sisters, Margaret Gladis and Ethel Jepson.
