Richard Whyman Obituary

PENN YAN - Richard Whyman passed away on November 28, 2013.
Friends and family may call from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday (December 4) at the First Presbyterian Church of Penn Yan, where a memorial service will be held following at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Paul Malles.
In lieu of flowers, you may make donations to the First Presbyterian Church of Penn Yan, 211 Main St, PO Box 639, Penn Yan, N.Y. 14527.
He was born on September 15, 1927 to Walter and Louisea Whyman in Batavia, N.Y.. Richard served in the armed forces as a General Clerk from 1945 to 1947. He received the American Theater World War II Victory Medal during his service term. He owned and operated the Snack Shop Restaurant in Prattsburgh for 12 years before becoming a bookkeeper for various businesses in the area. Richard loved to square and round dance and had done so for more than 42 years. Eventually he and his wife, Shirley, began teaching round dancing to many couples. Richard also began cuing round dances, which included some of his own creation. He loved to work with wood and made many, many items for his family and friends. When not in the wood shop, you could find him puttering in his garden or flowerbeds. Richard also loved to cook and would experiment with different concoctions, almost always to great success. His great love was his wife and family, laughter and friends, and he will be sorely missed.
Survivors include his loving wife: Shirley Whyman; his children: Cynthia (Bill) Stollery, Gary Whyman, Suzanne (Larry) Meyer; and his grandchildren: Mark (Kate) Stollery, Jennifer Stollery, Erin Whyman, Amy Meyer and Lori Meyer.
He is pre-deceased by his mother and father and his five brothers and one sister.

Rachel and I are very sorry to be out of town and thus unable to attend calling hours and the memorial service. it was with great sadness that we learned of Dick's passing. We take comfort in the knowledge that the Lord has called him home, but we also know the sadness and loss for family. We hope that these words will be of some comfort. It is an honor to be a part of Dick and Shirley's church family. God bless you,
Rob and Rachel Anderson
