Hugh W. Elzey, age 65, of Cumming lost his four-year battle with total renal failure, Monday, Jan. 28, 2013. A loving husband, father and papa, Hugh enjoyed his 32-year career with Dyer and Dyer Volvo.
A lover of all things outdoors, he enjoyed watching his goats. Most of all, he loved his family. He was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Watson Hugh Elzey; father, Grover Elzey Sr.; brother, Grover Elzey Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Marsha L. Elzey of Cumming; son and daughter-in-law, Vince and Miriam Elzey of Cumming; daughter, Misty Burtz of Cumming; grandchildren, Madison Elzey, Ally Burtz, Sara Kathryn Burtz, Graham Elzey; mother, Bo Elzey of Gainesville; mother-in-law, Mary Kathryn Ledbetter of Cumming; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Joyce Elzey of Cumming; sisters and brothers-in-law, Regina and Broughton Cochran of Gainesville, Lisa and Michael Massey of Gainesville; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Doyle and Hellon Ledbetter of Douglasville, Lewis and Barbara Ledbetter of Cumming, Atwood and Lynda Ledbetter of Cumming; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Patsy and Billy Holbrook of Cumming; brother-in-law, Lamar Sexton of Cumming; and many nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 31, at 2 p.m. at New Harmony Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jackie Stewart, the Rev. Gerald Blackburn and the Rev. Johnny Purcell officiating. Interment will follow at New Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Ingram Funeral Home Tuesday, Jan. 29, from 6-9 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 30, from 5-9 p.m. and Thursday, Jan. 31, from 9 a.m. until hour of the service.
