Nancy Pia Obituary

Nancy Pia, age 81, died on Sunday, November 18, 2018 in her home with her family by her side. She was born in Jersey City, NJ on April 25, 1937 to Archibald and Theresa Cherry, both Scottish immigrants.
Nancy worked different jobs throughout high school before graduating with Honors and numerous academic awards. She went on to business school to become a secretary. Her first full-time job was at Hanover Bank in NYC in the Foreign Exchange Department where she was a secretary for a short period of time before being promoted into the accounting department.
She was introduced to her future husband, Les Pia, by his sister and her lifelong friend Lenore Pia Roberts. Shortly after Les returned from the Korean War, he and Nancy were married. They then started a family and Nancy found her true calling as a wife and stay at home mother, a profession she loved, embraced, and was amazing at.
Throughout the years, Nancy and Les were transferred numerous times with General Motors and other companies he worked at. She always supported her husband and made new homes and friends where ever they lived. As the nest emptied, Nancy started a successful monogramming business in Muskegon, MI which she operated for nearly five years until she and Les moved to Florida. They finally relocated to Cumming, GA and retired to be with their sons and grandchildren.
Growing up, Nancy was a member of the Girl Scouts and the Order of the Rainbow (An affiliate of the Masons), and later in life was a member of the Junior Women's League, Garden Club, and a board member of her HOA. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, and gardening. She loved her family pets and hummingbirds.
Nancy is survived by her sons, Ken and Rick; grandchildren, Alex, Erik, and Jessica; her sister, Jean Albers; sister-in-law, Lenore Roberts; and her beloved little dog, Dixie.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Byars Funeral Home (155 Professional Park Drive, Cumming, GA) from 5 – 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 28.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in the name of Nancy Pia to The Humane Society of Forsyth County, 4440 Keith Bridge Road, Cumming, GA 30041.

Pia Family,
I was so young when my mom, Adrienne Czuba, became good friends with Mrs. Pia on Dartmouth in Canfield, OH. I DO know that my mom adored her and your family and talked about her even when they lived far apart. I'm sure they are both telling stories right now like they used to. Good thoughts to you all..
