Roger Scott "Andy" Anderson, 90, of John's Creek passed away on May 30, 2009, at Emory John's Creek Medical Center. Roger was born Oct. 31, 1918, in York County, Penn., the son of Alwyn M. and Sara Hess Anderson. He was a longtime resident of Knoxville, Tenn. He graduated in 1940 from the University of Tennessee with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He was a member of Tau Beta Pi and Scabbard and Blade.
Roger served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during World War II, primarily in the Panama Canal Zone with the 11th Engineer Regiment. He served as Chief, Transportation and Plant Section, Panama Engineer Division. He was discharged from the Army in 1946, with the rank of Lt. Colonel.
He was assistant plant engineer for the Knoxville plant of Rohm and Haas Company, where he was employed for more than 30 years. He was active in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Tennessee Society of Professional Engineers, and the Knoxville Technical Society. He was also a member of the Society of American Military Engineers.
He was a member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder. He enjoyed playing golf for many years and was a member of Holston Hills Country Club.
Roger was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Anatlas Pace Anderson.
He is survived by his daughter, Sara Anderson Allen and husband William Allen of Cary, N.C.; daughter, Sandra Anderson Putnam and husband Donald Putnam of Cumming; brother, John L. Anderson of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; and grandchildren, Elizabeth Allen of Chapel Hill, N.C., Charles Allen of Walnut Creek, Calif., and Sara Putnam of Fontana, N.C.
The funeral will be held at Eastminster Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, June 2, at 11 a.m. A private family interment service will be at Greenwood Cemetery at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends in the Eastminster chapel from 10-11 a.m. on June 2, before the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Eastminster Presbyterian Church or to the Knoxville Rescue Mission.
