Mrs. Alma M. Samples, age 89, of Cumming passed away Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012, after a period of declining health. Mrs. Samples was a native of Cumming. She was a lifelong member of Bethelview United Methodist Church. She was a charter member of the Cumming Chapter of The Order of the Eastern Star. Above all else, she loved her family, her church and her Goldenrods.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Elijah Samples; parents, Grady and Corrie McGinnis; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Eli and Ethel Samples; son-in-law, Michael Cowart; son-in-law, John E. (Sonny) Buffington; brothers, George McGinnis, John McGinnis; brothers and sisters-in-law, Herbert and Ruth McGinnis, Henry and Billie McGinnis; sister, Ruby Day; brother-in-law, Royce Samples; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Margaret and Irvin Evans, Ralph and Essie Lowery; brothers-in-law, Iverson Martin, Olan Chadwick.
She is survived by her daughters, Sara Woods Cowart of Ball Ground, Linda Samples Buffington of Gainesville; son-in-law, Steve Woods of Austell; grandson, Joseph Woods and wife Sally of Cumming; granddaughters, Beth Buffington Weikel and husband David of Gillsville, Suzanne Evans and husband Bradley of Cumming, Ginger Buffington Folger and husband Todd of Gainesville; great-grandchildren, Alex, Austin, and Christopher Woods, Elizabeth, Maggie, and Bill Hood, Sarah and Rebecca Weikel, Dylan Evans, Zeke Henderson, Isabella, Kristia and Amber Folger; brother and sister-in-law, Dan and Juanita McGinnis; sister and brother-in-law, Christine and Everett Taylor; brother-in-law, Emmett Day; sisters-in-law, Imogene McGinnis, Helen McGinnis, Minta Chadwick, Athleen Murdock; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 16, at 2 p.m. at Bethelview United Methodist Church with internment immediately following. The family will receive friends at Ingram Funeral Home Wednesday, Aug. 15, from 5-9 p.m. and Thursday, Aug. 16, from 11 a.m. until the hour of service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Building Fund of Bethelview United Methodist Church, 4525 Bethelview Road, Cumming, GA 30040.
