Rev. Benson C. Barrett, 98, went with his Lord on Oct. 22, 2013. A retired United Methodist Church Minister and United States Navy Chaplain with the rank of Commander, he served on various ships in the Pacific Theatre during World War II, Korea, and the Vietnam era.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Lois Fay (Douglas) Barrett of Buford; daughters and sons-in-law, Beryl and Dennis Erdal of Staunton, Va., Marsha and Perry Jakl of Buford; sons and daughter-in-law, Doug and Susan Barrett of Winston, John Barrett of Hiawassee; grandchildren, Stephanie Erdal, Rhett Barrett, Katie and Jennifer Jakl, Eli and Cayla Barrett; great-grandchild, Allison Barrett; nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 26, at 3 p.m. at The First United Methodist Church, at The Logan Funeral Home and Chapel in Ellijay. The family will be receiving friends previously from 1-3 p.m. Military Honors will be observed at the Logan Funeral Home Pavilion immediately after the funeral service.
