Mr. Bryant W. "Tex" Smith Sr., age 82, of Elberton, formerly of Cumming, passed away Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011. Mr. Smith was born Jan. 18, 1929, in DeQueen, Ark., and moved to Cumming in 1956, where he owned and operated Tex Smith Auto. He moved to Elberton in 1981 and was a member of Concord United Methodist Church in Elberton, Chamblee-Sardis Lodge #444 F&AM and Yaarab Shrine. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Smith; son, Bryant W. Smith Jr.; grandson, Kevin Garner; sister, Betty Jo Malone; and brother, Dub Smith.
Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Billie and Johnny Cooper of Royston, Sharon Self of Elberton, Barbara and David Pelt of Jackson, Debra and Rick Dowling of Cumming; sister, Amilee Seelig of Bryan, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 24, at 1 p.m. at the Ingram Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. J. David Gattis officiating. Interment with Masonic Rites will follow at Sawnee View Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday, Jan. 24, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
