Carol Mae (Sprang) Zomer, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016 in her assisted living home in Woodstock, with her husband, Duane by her side. She was a native of Decatur, Mich., born May 6, 1951 in Paw Paw, Mich. She is the daughter of the late Edward C. and Laura E. Sprang, both of Decatur, Mich.
Carol was a life-long educator, graduating with her Bachelor's Degree in 1969 from Western Michigan University. She began teaching in the Vicksburg (MI) School District, continuing in Chillicothe, Ohio for the Unioto School District, and eventually moving to Cumming Georgia in 1992. She retired from Coal Mountain Elementary School and the Forsyth County School District in 2012. When not in the classroom, Carol always had the desire to help children be successful. All three of her children continued her legacy by becoming involved in education. After her retirement from teaching, her love for the youth of tomorrow was then fulfilled by loving on her seven grandchildren, Quintin Zomer, Malakai Zomer, Cole Konow, Bennett Konow, Audrey Konow, Zoie Zomer, and Carrabelle Williams.
Carol is survived by her husband of 43 years, Duane Zomer of Woodstock; along with her children, Nicholas Zomer (Tarrah) of Acworth, Amy Konow (Collin) of North Franklin, Conn., and Emily Williams (Scott) of Dawsonville; sister, Nadine Hoffelder (Don) of Burr Oak, Mich.; an aunt and uncle; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to the Forsyth County Public Library.
Visitation will be held at the Funeral Home Thursday, Sept. 29, from 5-8 p.m. and Friday, Sept. 30 at 11 a.m. until the celebration of Carol's life in the Chapel at McDonald and Son at 1 p.m. According to her wishes, she will be cremated and her ashes, like her memory, kept by her family.
