The Guest Book is expired.

Beloved wife, mom, nanny, sister, and friend, Carolyn Ann Powell, passed to our Lord on Jan. 13, 2010, after a long battle with cancer. Carolyn is survived by her sons, Mike of Athens, Steve and his wife Lisa of Cumming; and her cherished grandchildren, Jessica and Matthew.
Carolyn was a living extension of Christ's unconditional love. She opened up her heart and whole being to others through her selfless, humble service. She served as religious director at St. Josephs Catholic Church, where she developed the Y.E.S. program that focused on bringing the families of the parish together to celebrate God's love. At St. Jude's Catholic Church in Cashiers, N.C., her special relationship with Christ and her deep devotion to Him allowed her to touch countless lives.
Even as she was enduring cancer or other of life's challenges, her focus was never on herself, but on how she could minister and do for others. Carolyn influenced so many lives with her guidance, love and spirit. These will always be the lasting tribute of her legacy of service, seen daily in the lives of her children and grandchildren. Carolyn would never miss a moment and was blessed to see and help us all see God's presence in the smallest flower, grandest sunrise, quietest mountain stream, or the joy of Christmas morning.
Her faith, hope, and love will be a cherished guide for us as we continue on life's journey. She lived as we are taught in Romans 12:12, "Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer".
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 16, at noon, at the University of Georgia Catholic Center in Athens. There will be a reception to follow. A funeral mass will be held on Sunday, Jan. 17, at St. Jude's Catholic Church in Cashiers, N.C., at 3 p.m. There will be a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Mary's Hospice House in Bogart.
The Powell family would also like to extend a special thank you to the many dear friends that have been such a source of strength and encouragement on this special journey. We pray that God's grace will bless each of you as you have so deeply blessed and enriched our lives.
Lord and Stephens, East, in Athens is in charge of arrangements.
