Charles Edward Sciortino, age 77, of Cumming passed away on Aug. 15, 2009, at Embracing Hospice House. He was a longtime resident of New Orleans, La.
Mr. Sciortino served in the U.S. Marines in Korea at a MASH unit near the front lines. Following his military service, he started flying seaplanes and then spent the remainder of his career as a captain with Eastern Airlines.
Mr. Sciortino was preceded in death by his son, Darryl.
Mr. Sciortino is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce R. Sciortino of Cumming; sons, David Sciortino and Richard Sciortino of Cumming, Ron Sciortino of Sugar Hill; daughters, Carolyn Sciortino Nicholas and Charlene Sciortino Fairchild of Cumming, Janet Sciortino Nichols of Hixson, Tenn.; sister, Josie Held of Louisiana; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 20, in the chapel of McDonald and Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Sawnee View Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday, Aug. 20, from 1-3 p.m. at the funeral home.
