Mr. Charles Wesley Padgett, age 85, of Blairsville, formerly of Lithonia, passed away Saturday, April 9, 2011, in the Heritage Health Care following an extended illness. Mr. Padgett was born Aug. 17, 1925, in Sandersville, the son of the late Paul Perry Padgett and the late Marion Veal Padgett. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines of World War II in which he was wounded in action in the South Pacific and received the Purple Heart. He retired in 1985 from the U.S. Postal Service after more than 33 years of service. Charles was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather. Mr. Padgett was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Union County.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Perrian Padgett; and a sister-in-law, Martha Hodges Padgett.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Anita Campbell Padgett of Blairsville; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Chuck and Pam Padgett of Cumming, Mark Padgett of Canton; two grandchildren, Adam and Kristin Padgett, both of Canton; many other relatives and friends also survive.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday, April 15, at 1:30 p.m. from the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ben Lewis officiating. Special music will be presented by Jeff Bauman and Keith DeFoor. Military honors will be presented by the North Georgia Honor Guard. The family will meet with friends following the service.
Flowers are accepted or in lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations be made to the First United Methodist Church Activities Center or to a favorite charity of your choice in memory of Mr. Padgett.
