Mr. Charlie Coleman Lane of Dawsonville passed away Dec. 21, 2011, at home with his family by his side. Mr. Lane was born in Rutherford, N.C., and was the son of the late Crawford Coleman and Bernice Virginia Lane. He was a member of First Christian Church in Cumming, retired from General Motors, and then worked at Big Canoe. He served in the U.S. Army, 1st Cavalry, Company B, during the Vietnam War and received the Purple Heart for his service.
Mr. Lane is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Susan Hamrick Lane; daughters, Christel Lane (Mitch) Allen of Rock Hill, S.C., Wendi Lane (Bryan) Swearingen of Cumming, Lisa (Jim) Harmon of Jacksonville, Fla., Tina Lane of Brunswick; sisters, Ruth Lane Turton of Charlotte, N.C., Virginia Lane (Todd) Colvin of Austin, Texas, Alberta Lane (Larry) Jutowsky of Mesa, Ariz.; brothers, Roy (Peggy) Lane of Charlotte, N.C., Ron (Sandra) Lane of Charlotte, N.C.; his sisters-in-law, Ellie Hamrick Doster of Charlotte, N.C., Rebecca Hamrick (Sam) Treadaway of Charlotte, N.C.; and grandchildren, Hunter Allen, Luke Allen, Robby Swearingen, Josh Swearingen, and Jamie Harmon.
A service celebrating Mr. Lane's life will be held Tuesday, Dec. 27, at 11 a.m. at Ingram Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Phil Gambill officiating. A military burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton. The family will receive friends at Ingram Funeral Home Chapel Monday, Dec. 26, from 6-8 p.m.
