David Lewis Hamby, age 76, of Cumming passed away Oct. 29, 2013. Mr. Hamby, a native of Cumming, was the son of the late Lewis Franklin and Ellene Mullinax Hamby. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Margie Webb and Margaret Hamby; brothers, Tommy and Edgar Hamby; and step grandson, Casey Calloway. David was retired from the United States Navy and was the owner and operator of Dental Equipment Repairs for 30 years.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Hamby of Cumming; son, Wayne Hamby of Cumming; daughters, Leah Leggett of Athens, Susan Hamby of Monroe; stepchildren, Renee and Glen Black of Austell, Chris and Tiffany Cheney of Marietta, Robert and Stephanie Davis of Talking Rock; sisters, Louise Wilbanks of Cumming, Ethel Haney of Winder; brother, John Hamby of Cumming; grandchildren, Nickolas Hamby, Devon Hamby and Mariah Hamby; step-grandchildren, Calvin and Luke Black, Brent Calloway, Katie Adams and Colin and Connor Cheney; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 4, at noon in the McDonald and Son Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Scott Wilbanks and Larry Wilbanks officiating. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, Nov. 3, from 1-8 p.m.
