David "Scott" Phillips, age 52, of Cumming passed away peacefully at his home Jan. 21, 2013. Scott was born Nov. 23, 1960, in Kingsport, Tenn. He was preceded in death by his father, Beverly Edwin Phillips Sr.

Phillips; siblings, Eddie Phillips, Jeff (Deborah) Phillips, Leigh Ann Phillips (David) Hunt; niece, Jessie (Josh) Morgan; nephews, Scout Phillips, Sam Phillips, David Aaron Hunt, Avery Hunt.
Scott became the proud "Papaw" of Jayce Funsten in 2011, which brought him great joy and pleasure. Scott was a faithful and true friend to many, offering support whenever called upon. He was a carpenter by trade, but his passions included woodcarving, painting, spiritual study, and time spent with his wife, daughter, grandson, mother, and other family and friends.
Scott was a spiritual being and loved his God. A favorite saying of his was, "Hoka Hey" which means, "To live life in such a way that one has done all that one should upon one's last day - so it is indeed a good day to die."
Memorial services will be held Saturday, Jan. 26, at 6 p.m. in the chapel of Ingram Funeral Home, with the Rev. Charles Brockett officiating. The family will receive friends at Ingram Funeral Home Saturday from 2-6 p.m.
