In Loving Memory of William Charles Mattie, Sr.

"Bill" Mattie, age 76, of Cumming, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 20, 2017. Bill was a native of Bridgeport, Conn., but lived in many places throughout the United States. He moved to the Cumming area in 1979 and made this community his permanent home. Bill was a free spirit and a true "jack-of-all trades". He served in the United States Air Force. He was an auto mechanic, underwater welder, gas station owner, pilot, airplane mechanic, air plane builder, log home builder, motorcycle mechanic and car restorer. He was also the long time owner of Bill's Bar-B-Que on Hwy.9 before becoming a bus driver for the Forsyth County school system. Bill continued to work part-time after he retired but always made time to ride his Harley with his friends.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife Margaret "Peggy" Mattie of 57 years; his daughter, Terry Patrick, son and Daughter-in-Law William & Kenya Mattie, and son, Richard Mattie; his grandchildren, Destiny Patrick, Whitney Patrick & fiance' Todd Lewis, William Charles "Chase" Mattie, III & fiance' Kala Spriggs, Mallory Mattie, McKenzie Mattie, Derek Mattie, Dylan Mattie & granddaughter-in-law Ashley Mattie; and his beloved great-grandchildren, Wesley & Mason Lewis, and Ashlyn & Jadyn Mattie. He is also survived by his three brothers; Henry Mattie, Don Mattie, and Gary Mattie and their families and long time friends, David & Suzanne Bennett, Richie & Ginny Sherwood, and Art & Stephanie Monsanto. He is reunited in heaven with his father, Maurice Mattie, mother, Edith Bennett, and his first grandchild, Dustin Patrick. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude for the kind words and support during this difficult time. We are learning just how much Bill impacted so many people in our community. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Words cannot express how much he will be missed.

Friends will be received by the family at McDonald & Son Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 24, 2017, from 5-8 p.m. and on Thursday, May 25, 2017 from 9-11 p.m. The service will be held in the chapel at 11 a.m. followed by interment at the Georgia National Cemetery.
