Mrs. Dolores Moore "Doty" Sims, age 69, of Buford passed away Thursday, June 6, 2013, after a four and a half year battle with ovarian cancer. Mrs. Sims was born Nov. 11, 1943, in Thomaston. She was a 1961 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in Thomaston and she was a 1965 graduate of West Georgia College in Carrollton, where she received her bachelor's degree.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of Sugar Hill United Methodist Church, a member of the Fellowship Sunday School class and a volunteer for several functions of the church.
She was preceded in death by her father, James F. Moore.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Douglas Sims of Buford; children, Stacy and Brad Padgett of Cumming, Shannon and Kerry Skelton of Buford; grandchildren, Caleb Padgett, Clay Padgett, Kadie Skelton; mother, Nellie McMichael Moore of Thomaston; brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Lisa Moore of Snellville; brother-in-law, Jerry and Martha Sims of Marietta; and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 8, at 2 p.m. at Sugar Hill United Methodist Church, with Dr. Richard Hunter and the Rev. Mari Lane Brooks officiating. There will be a visitation and reception at the church following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sugar Hill United Methodist Church in memory of Doty Sims.
