Donald J. Rainey Sr., 93, of Ball Ground passed away Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013, at Mesun Hospice in Lawrenceville. Mr. Rainey served in the U.S. Army and was a World War II veteran. He retired from Unisys and was a member of Concord Baptist Church, the American Legion and the Gainesville Camping Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Rainey.
He is survived by his children, Donald J. Rainey Jr. (Sammie) of Ball Ground, Mary Cobb Henderson (Jimmie) of Dawsonville, Sandra Carder (Doyle) of Cumming, Darrell Rainey (Virginia) Athens; brother, Denver Rainey of Woodstock; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, Jan. 3, at 2 p.m. at the Sosebee Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Paul Carder, Chaplain Joe Burnette and grandson, Todd Rainey officiating. Interment will follow in Lake Forest Memorial Park in Jasper. The family will receive friends Thursday, Jan. 2, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday, Jan. 3, from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour.
