Edward Harvey Shull, 69, of Cumming passed away Oct. 25, 2010, at Northside Forsyth Hospital. Born in Chattanooga, Tenn., he was the son of the late Nancy Agnes and Harvey Shull.
Ed had a long, distinguished career with the Quaker Oats Company that spanned more than 38 years. He spent his first years in sales up until 1983. While maintaining his sales position, he began representing Quaker Oats and Gatorade in the NASCAR circuit. Soon thereafter he transitioned roles and moved to the Sports Marketing Division of Quaker Oats for the NASCAR division. This was his passion and a position he truly loved. Along the way, he touched many lives in and around NASCAR. Even though he retired in 2003, Ed continued to live out his passion as a consultant with Gatorade and the NASCAR industry. We know that many in the NASCAR family will miss Ed's presence, sense of humor, and friendly face on Sundays at the track. Throughout his life, some of Ed's other passions included golf, his time spent in the Drum and Bugle Corps, gospel music, as well as relaxing at his retreat in Destin, Fla., and spending time with his family and being the best "Papaw" to his grandchildren.
Edward was a devoted husband, father and "Papaw". He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Linda J. Shull of Cumming; daughters, Sherri (Robert) Langley of Aspen, Colo., Terri (Larry) Delbridge of Woodstock; sons, Kenneth Edward Shull of Alpharetta, Jeffery (Jennifer) Shull of Gainesville; sisters, Tommye Long of Sumter, S.C., Robbie (Jim) Hester of Rossville, Jewel (Charles) Rogers of Rossville; brother, James Warren (Sue) Shull of Hixon, Tenn.; grandchildren, Kyle, Jacob, Carlyn, MacKenzie and Quinn Langley, Riley Martinez, Tara, Karson and Chase Delbridge, Tucker, Mitchell and Heather Shull. Edward loved and supported his family in all that they did.
The funeral service and celebration of Ed's life will be held Tuesday, Nov. 2, at 10 a.m. in the chapel of McDonald and Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Schmid officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Roswell. The family will receive friends Monday, Nov. 1, from 1-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers include Kyle Langley, Jacob Langley, Lee Burleson, Bob Nelson, Skeeter Schuessler, Sean Eggert, Bill Fitch, Dan Zacharias, Al Klein, Bob Harris, Roger Servat, Hobie Walker, Greg Rogers and Gary Rogers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his honor to the PKD Foundation at www.pkdcure.org.
