Edward R. Colombo, 89, of Cumming was called home by his Savior on Aug. 23, 2010. He was born Feb. 24, 1921, in Ridgewood, N.J., to Roy Anthony Colombo and Lena Dietiker Colombo. Edward was one of eight children and grew up in a loving family with many relatives and friends in Waldwick, N.J. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, June G. Colombo.
Mr. Colombo was a decorated veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He, like his father, worked for the Erie Lackawana and Conrail Railroads as a conductor. After retiring he became an antique clock repairman and dealer.
He leaves behind his two daughters, Elaine Colombo, June Ellen Colombo; a granddaughter, Heather (Jeremy) Colombo Durkin; and three great-grandchildren, Alexis J. Durkin, Dustin W. Durkin and Mitchell G. Durkin.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 26, at 11:30 a.m. in the Chapel of McDonald and Son Funeral Home with Pastor Ron Preuss officiating. Interment will be held at the Woodstock Cemetery in New York, next to his beloved wife. The family will receive friends from 10-11:30 a.m. the day of the service.
Flowers are welcomed, or donations can be made in Mr. Colombo's name to the , Cumming First United Methodist Church, or the Waldwick United Methodist Church.
