Edward Vernon Taylor Jr., 61, of Cumming passed away Dec. 14, 2010. Born in Cumming, he was the son of the late Edward V. Taylor Sr. and Dorothy "Dot" Taylor.
Eddie served in the U.S. Air Force and was a commercial realtor. He was active in the Cumming and Forsyth County community, serving as a county commissioner, board of education member, board member of Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce, past president of the American Cancer Society and a member of the Forsyth Lanier Rotary Club. Eddie was in the 2008-2009 Leadership Forsyth Class. He was also a member of the North Georgia Mountain Riders.
In addition to his mother, Eddie is survived by his partner, Dayla Jo Peters of Cumming; children, Kendra L. Taylor (Kevin) Rich, Seneca R. Taylor of Cumming; brother, Dwight L. (Debbie) Taylor of Big Canoe; and nephew, Landon D. Taylor of Crested Butte, Colo.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Dec. 19, at 3 p.m. at Mountain Lake Church with the Rev. Shawn Lovejoy, the Rev. John Shepherd and the Rev. Travis Bridgeman officiating. Inurnment will follow at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton. The family will receive friends Saturday, Dec. 18, from 5-9 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 19, from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Buddy Lang, Dr. Michael Hogan, David Harrelson, Kevin Rich, Quincy Wiley, Denver Caldwell, Miles Newton and Tom Bower. Honorary Pallbearers will be North Georgia Mountain Riders and Lanier Forsyth Rotary Club.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Eddie's memory to the L.E.A.D.E.R. (Lanier Extended Area Drivers Education Resource) Organization for Teen Drivers, Lanier Forsyth Rotary Club, P.O. Box 3166, Cumming, GA 30028 or www.lanierforsythrotaryclub.org.
