Edwin Jackie (Jack) Holbrook, 77, of Cumming passed away Thursday, July 7, 2011, after a brief battle with lung cancer. He served in the U.S. Army as an MP in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He was a past member of the Lions Club, Kiwanis, Cumming Jaycees and the Cumming Shriners. Jackie was a well-known figure in the community and owned several businesses in the past including Holbrook Hardware, Jack's Restaurant and Holbrook Food Store. He was also involved in Western Steer Steakhouses in Georgia and Tennessee.
He had worked the last 22 years at Andean Chevrolet. His passion was his garden, flowers, his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Ruth McGee Holbrook; children, Jodi Smith of Cumming, Joni and Tony Stowe of Cumming, Traci and Lori Holbrook of Dawsonville; four grandchildren, Natalie and Kyle Stowe, Darrell Smith, Jason Holbrook; several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 10, at 2 p.m. at Ingram Funeral Home chapel. Interment will follow at Sawnee View Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday, July 8, from 6-9 p.m., Saturday, July 9, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. and Sunday, July 10, from 9 a.m. until time of service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dawson or Forsyth County Foster Care Association.
