Elizabeth Brice Surtees of Cumming passed away June 5, 2011, from complications of ALS disease. Born in Massachusetts in 1936, Betty lived a full life and appreciated the TLC she received during her illness from family, friends, neighbors, the good people with Home Instead, Hospice, and the gentle and knowledgeable folks at Emory ALS Clinic. Betty was a lifelong member of Girl Scouts U.S.A. and Kappa Alpha Theta Fraternity for Women.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Surtees; sister, Cynthia of Florida; daughter, Kim; son, Joe (Nancy) of Maine; three granddaughters, Karly, Jodie and Mindy; and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Betty's life will be held Saturday June 18, from 1-3 p.m. in the reception hall of McDonald and Son Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Betty's memory to The Trefoil Guild Campership Fund, 6795 Wendy Jean Drive, Morrow, GA 30260, to the ALS Center at Emory University, 101 Woodruff Circle, Suite 6000, Atlanta, GA 30322, or to a charity of your choice.
