Elton Wesley Lewis, age 80, passed away Aug. 28, 2011, in his home in Forsyth County. He was born May 2, 1931, to James Corwin and Katherine Lu Lewis. In his teens, Mr. Lewis performed with his own jazz trio as well as with other bands in Kansas City in the 1940's. After serving in the Navy during the Korean War, he received a degree in aeronautical engineering and began his career as principal of a data analysis firm.
Among other ventures, he owned and operated a small airline as well as health food stores in Puerto Rico and Miami. After retirement he worked as a ninth district court mediator in Forsyth, Hall and Cherokee counties and later as a real estate salesperson.
Mr. Lewis was known as warm, generous and witty, bright in both intellect and spirit. His lifelong interests included science, music, math, computers, and sports. He played senior softball for several years.
Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Shirley Decker. He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Edwards Lewis; daughters, Cheryl Ann Plowman and Karen Marie Lynn; son, Donald James Grosskreutz; stepdaughter, Marcia Hewitt; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The memorial service will be held at his home Sept. 10 at 11 a.m.
