Eugene William Rider, 92, of Cumming, formerly of Roswell, died at Embracing Hospice House on Feb. 16, 2013. Born in Oakwood, he was the son of the late Herschel and Velia Rider. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 71 years, Ruth Beatrice Rider.
Gene served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a retired engineer with the Georgia State Patrol. He was a 65-year Mason and member of Roswell Masonic Lodge # 165 F&A.M., and a member of Coal Mountain Baptist Church.
Gene is survived by his children, James E. (Gail) Rider of Cumming, Richard D. (Shirley) Rider of Cumming; sister, Ailene Anderson of Maryville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Greg (Jenny) Rider, Kim Rider, Shelby (Ryan) Gober, Genia (Marty) Standridge and Rick (Logan) Rider, all of Cumming; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, in the chapel of McDonald and Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Danny Bennett officiating. Interment will follow at Georgia National Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Feb. 19 from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Masonic Children's Home, P.O. Box 4183, Macon, GA 31208.
