Evelyn M. George, 91, of Cumming passed away on Oct. 5, 2015, surrounded by her family. Born in Eagle Center, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late William J. Miller and Mabel Macon Miller. She is also predeceased by her husband, Robert H. George and two brothers, Roger L. Miller and William R. Miller.
Evelyn was raised in Waterloo, Iowa. She married Robert H. George of Dyersville, Iowa, August 31, 1948 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waterloo. Evelyn graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing where she was a member of the Nurses Cadet Corps. She was an active registered nurse for 40 years before retirement in 1986. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi. Evelyn was very involved in the craft and quilting clubs at Our Lady of Lourdes in Dunedin, Fla., St. Mary's in Sylva, N.C. and St. Francis in Franklin, N.C. and volunteered for several years at CJ Harris Thrift Shop in Sylva, N.C. Her passions were creating beautiful flower beds, sewing, crafts and being a loving Mom and Nana.
Evelyn is survived by her two sons, Steven H. George, Robert W. George (Paula); her daughter, Sharyl M. Smith (Vann); her two grandchildren, Bobby and Maddie George; her sister Beverly M. Perkins and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral mass will be at 11 AM, Friday, Oct. 9, with a light luncheon following at St. Brendan's Catholic Church in Cumming. Interment will follow at Arlington Cemetery, in Sandy Springs.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation (www.lionslighthouse.org).
