Frances Edmondson Martin, 91, of Cumming and Lake Lanier passed away peacefully on July 13, 2008, at Cumming Manor. Frances was born in Washington County, Va., and lived there until her graduation from Emory and Henry College.
She is survived by her brother, William H. Edmondson; and sister, Helen E. Harris, both of Glade Springs, Va. Also surviving are her stepdaughters, Gene Martin Wood and Edith Martin Smith; grandchildren, Julee Wood James and David James, Bryan Wood, Joanie Wood Weaver and John Weaver, Trav Smith, Leigh Smith Catherall and Tom Catherall, Jennifer Smith Schuh and Jonathaon Schuh.
Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Oscar Martin who died in 1985.
After she graduated from Emory and Henry, Frances moved to Atlanta and became office manager for the Tom Slate Athletic Equipment Company. Frances and D.O. moved to Lake Lanier in 1965 in the home they built as the lake was being developed in the late 1950's. Frances taught business courses in the Forsyth County High School for many years, retiring in 1981.
Funeral services will be held at McDonald and Son Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 16, at 2 p.m.
