Fred Stephen McDowell, 81, of Cumming passed away June 3, 2012, after a lengthy illness. He was born in Cedartown on April 30,1931. Mr. McDowell was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus McDowell; and loving sister, Carmel McDowell Boswell.
Mr. McDowell served proudly in the United States Marines during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Georgia State University and was employed by Eastman Kodak for more than 32 years, in management. Prior to his illness, he was an active member of the Cumming Baptist Church.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Virginia Morris McDowell; daughters, Lynne (Garry) Mize of Cumming, Lauren (Dave) Terry of Franklin, Tenn.; brother, Willis Lee (Jerry) McDowell of Cedartown; sister, Elaine (Roy) Anderson of Cedartown; grandchildren, Brooke (Geoff) Duncan of Cumming, Clint (Stacy) Mize of Buford, Sarah (Jeff) Heath of Franklin, Tenn., Whitney Terry of Knoxville, Tenn.; great-grandchildren, Parker, Bayler, Ryder Duncan and Presley Mize.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 6, at 1 p.m. at McDonald and Sons Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Tuesday, June 5, from 6-9 p.m.
