George William Gleeson, 87, of Cumming passed away Aug. 26, 2013, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Roswell, he was the son of the late John Clifford and Georgie Bowen Gleeson.
George attended Georgia State University and the University of Georgia and was a Vocational Ag teacher in Conyers for many years. As a chemical engineer, he worked for Lockheed Research and Development in Marietta and at the nuclear facility in Dawsonville. For five of those years he was charged with research of hot cells. From 1972-1994 he owned and ran Gleeson Tractor Company.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Myrtice Bass Gleeson of Cumming; daughter, Deborah Gleeson (R. Allan) Rainey of Cumming; son, George Edwin (Elaine Smith) Gleeson Sr. of Cumming; granddaughters, Melissa Leigh Rainey of Cumming, Brie Rainey (Bryan) Briscoe of Lawrenceville; grandsons, George Edwin (Holly Lowther) Gleeson Jr. of Dawsonville, William Paul (MaryBeth Bagley) Gleeson of Cumming; great-grandsons, Charlie and Richard Briscoe of Lawrenceville, Colton Gleeson of Dawsonville; sisters, Marion Gleeson Perry of Dawsonville, Joyce Gleeson Anderson of Smyrna.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 29, at 11 a.m. at Cumming First United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Green Lawn Cemetery in Roswell. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, Aug. 28, from 4-8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Building Fund of Cumming First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 606, Cumming, GA 30028.
