Gladys D. Babcock, age 98, went to be with the Lord May 8, 2015 in Boise surrounded by family.
Gladys was the second of three daughters born to Walter R. McDowell and Hazel L. Moore McDowell on 4/12/1917 in Montana. While Gladys was a toddler, the family moved to her beloved Idaho. Her nickname, Happy B, typified her disposition, despite the fact that before the age of 10, she had lost her mother and older sister and later her firstborn child.
After proudly serving the public at the Boise Social Security office for almost 30 years, Gladys retired and began spending summers in McCall, and enjoying time with grandchildren in Alaska, Georgia, and Idaho. She also enjoyed travelling to places such as Europe, Egypt, Israel, and Peru. Gladys enriched the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a knack for making each one feel special and loved. Gladys never met a stranger and led a rich and active life that included horseback riding at 74 and roller blading at 75, attributing her longevity to avoiding doctors and medicine and using apple cider vinegar as the cure-all. In 2008 Gladys moved to Cumming to be near four of her six children, returning to Boise in 2014. Although she suffered from a loss of shortterm memory, she kept her wit and sense of humor to the very end.
Gladys is preceded in death by her husband, James W. Babcock Jr. in 1971, (her Jim); sister, Mildred Howry of Great Falls, Montana in 2008; daughter, Diane Babcock in 2011; and great-grandson, Nicholas J. Hart in March of this year.
She is survived by four daughters, Sandra Harms of Boise, Kathy Totten (Gary) of Cumming, Anne Kaserman (Paul) of Emmett, and Suzanne Bosch (Frank) of Meridian; son, Jim Babcock (Cyndi) of Cumming; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
The Lord has blessed our family by giving us many wonderful years with our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Happy B.
