Goldie Mae Monroe, 81, of Cumming passed away at Embracing Hospice House on May 12, 2010. Born in Claiborne County, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Helen Brock. Her beloved husband, Mansel Monroe also predeceased her.
Mrs. Monroe was a member of Greater Heights Baptist Church. A great cook, she also loved flowers and had a passion for gardening. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family.
She is survived by her children, Debbie (Tim) Tierce of Palm Bay, Fla., Larry (Patti) Monroe of Cumming, Jimmy (Wendy) Monroe of Cumming, Teresa Holt of Tennessee; sisters, Mardell Brewer of Tazwell, Tenn., Sylvia (Bill) Ratliff of Tennessee; brother, J.C. (Blanche) Brock of Sandusky, Ohio; grandchildren, Kelli (Tobin) Schroeder, Robert (Brenda) Tierce, Nathan (Paige) Monroe, Caleb Monroe, Jenni Monroe, Jaimee Monroe, Jodee Monroe, Brittney Powers, Kristin Monroe, Cody Powers; and great-grandchildren, Rebekah, Aaron and Ruthie.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 17, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of McDonald and Son Funeral Home with Pastor Chris Grinstead officiating. Interment will follow at Georgia National Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 16, from 2-4 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Embracing Hospice House, 8013 Majors Road, Cumming, GA 30041.
