Grace Chumley West, age 81, of Cumming passed away Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008. A native of Dawsonville, Grace had lived in Cumming most of her life. She was born in June of 1927, one of nine children of John Henry Chumley and Martha Sue Holtzclaw Chumley. Grace was known as "Granny" to many and provided childcare in her home for more than 20 years.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Russell West, who passed away in August of 1999.
She is survived by her children, Joyce M. Jordan, James H. Spence, Daniel M. West, Ronnie D. West and Vickie West Farr; 16 surviving grandchildren, of whom she was most proud; 27 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; siblings, Minnie L. Wigington, Loy Chumley, J. Carson Chumley and Edna Goswick.
She had a long and wonderful life and was a blessing to all she met. Heaven has gained an angel.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 22, at 3 p.m. at the Ingram Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dave Holbrook officiating. Interment will follow in the Dawsonville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, Dec. 20, from 2-4 p.m. and from 6-9 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, from 2-4 p.m. and from 6-9 p.m. at Ingram Funeral Home.
