Hazel Christine Madden Erwin, 83, widow of Henry Marshall Erwin, passed away July 3, 2009. Born in Elbert County, she was the daughter of the late John Waco Madden and Effie Lee McKelly Madden. Mrs. Erwin was formerly employed with Thomas Textile, General Time and was retired from Vend Inc. She was known for having life filled with love of faith, family, nature and her country. She had a gift for cooking and was always thinking first of others. Her spirit will live throughout those blessed enough to have been part of her life's journey.
She was preceded in death by several brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Judy Erwin Hansford and Bill Hansford of Cumming; her grandsons, Brian Hansford and his wife Lauren of Roswell, Jason Hansford of Athens; great-grandsons, John Hansford, Will Hansford of Roswell; brothers, Paul Madden of Cumming, Albert Madden of Elberton; and sister, Sue Hancock of Winterville.
Graveside services were at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 5, at Athens Memory Gardens with the Rev. Bill Hayes officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Hospice House or the .
Lord and Stephens, EAST, is in charge of arrangements.
