Herbert Ascott (Buddy) Lang Jr., age 59, of Cumming died Tuesday, June 7, 2011. He was born Aug. 17, 1951, in Atlanta, and was the son of the late Herbert Ascott Lang Sr. and the late Hannah Tavenier Lang.
Buddy was president of Lang Signs Inc. in Cumming, one of the oldest businesses in Forsyth County, which was founded by his father in 1929. He also owned various other operating businesses and commercial real estate holding companies. Buddy was a founding shareholder and director of Citizens Bank of Forsyth County, where he remained on the board of directors.
Buddy believed in giving back to the community and instilled the same spirit of volunteerism in his family. One of his most favorite non-profits was Bald Ridge Lodge, an emergency shelter for boys, which he co-founded. He was also a charter member and past president of the South Forsyth Rotary Club and had previously served on the Forsyth County Parks and Recreation Board, the Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce Board, United Way, and various other local non-profits.
Buddy was preceded in death by his brother, Adriaan Lang.
Buddy is survived by his wife, Linda Hood Lang of Cumming; children, V. Kevin Lang (Rebecca) of Athens, Valery Lang Hall (Jeff) of Cumming; grandchildren, Camden and Adair Lang; and brother, Isaac Lang (Deborah) of Cumming.
Visitation will be held at Ingram Funeral Home in Cumming on Wednesday, June 8, from 5-9 p.m. and Thursday, June 9, from 5-9 p.m. A private family service will be held Friday, June 10.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bald Ridge Lodge, 562 Lakeland Plaza, #302, Cumming, GA 30040.
