Herbert Dean Mundy, 87, of Killeen, Texas, passed away in Killeen on Jan. 2, 2010. Mr. Mundy was born to James and Vada Hamby Mundy on March 4, 1922, in Cumming.
Mr. Mundy married Nell B. Barentine on Oct. 8, 1942. They celebrated their 60-year wedding anniversary in 2002. Mr. Mundy retired from the U.S. Army on March 31, 1972, at the rank of 1SGT with 29 years of service. He served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam during his enlistment.
Mr. Mundy was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Survivors include his son, Rodney Dean Mundy and his wife Barbara of Indianapolis, Ind.; three daughters, Kathye Nimmo and her husband Thomas of East Peoria, Ill., Renee Latham and her husband Fred of Killeen, Cheryle Levy and her husband Robert of Minneapolis, Minn; sister, Thelma Bagwell of Cumming; 11 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 5, at the First Baptist Church in Killeen with Pastor Greg Schannep and Dr. Randy Wallace officiating. Burial with full military honors followed at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials in honor of Herbert Mundy be made to Wounded Warrior Project, 7020 A.C. Skinner Parkway, Suite 100, Jacksonville, FL 32256.
Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen, Texas, is in charge of arrangements.
