Irma Arrendale Howell, 89, of Alpharetta passed away March 29, 2010. Born Aug. 28, 1920, to Howard Joel Arrendale and Ora Chastain Arrendale in Tiger, she grew up in Colbert. She had a long career in secondary education, teaching biology in Cumming and Athens, and in the Philippines and Germany with the Department of Defense. She spent her retirement years in Cumming and Roswell.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters, Helen Brooks of Cumming, Gladys Lyon of Homer, Jean Ford Murphy of Virginia Beach, Va.; and brothers, Pete and Dick Arrendale of Colbert.
Survivors include her daughter, Beverly P. Stone and husband James of Suwanee; son, Joel C. Pittard and wife Carol of Auburn, Ala.; three grandsons, Dr. James E. Stone II of Thornwood, N.Y., Brad Stone of Lawrenceville, Jeb Pittard and wife Leanna of Athens; five nephews; and five nieces.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 1, at Mary Our Queen Catholic Church in Norcross. Burial will follow at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs. Visitation and prayer service will be held Wednesday, March 31, from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
