Dr. J. Jackson Reeve, 87, of Cumming passed away Dec. 19, 2009, after a long and productive life.
Jackson was born Feb. 1, 1922, in Wembo-Nyama, Belgium Congo, Africa, to Methodist missionary parents, Rev. and Mrs. Thomas E. Reeve Sr. Upon returning to the United States in 1929, they lived in Calhoun. After graduating from Calhoun High School in 1939, Dr. Reeve attended Emory at Oxford and later matriculated to Emory University where he graduated in 1943. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy until 1946, where he was honorable discharged as an AETM, 2nd Class. Dr. Reeve later returned to Emory University's Dental School and graduated in 1958. He practiced orthodontics in Atlanta, and later in Cumming, until his retirement in 1990. During his career Dr. Reeve developed and patented the Anterior Root Torquing Auxiliary and the Action Archwire both currently used in orthodontics today. He was honored by the Georgia Dental Association for his lifetime achievements.
Jackson was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Cumming and served as a deacon as well as several other committees. He was on the board of directors of the Sawnee Community Center, where he organized and directed the annual Cumming Triathlon in 1986-1988. He loved water sports and living on the lake. Dr. Reeve also served on the board of directors for the Lake Lanier Property Owner's Association.
Jackson was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Dr. Thomas E. Reeve Jr.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 66 years, Jamesine Smith Reeve of High Springs, Fla.; their three children, Bonnie Dee Reeve Dudley and her husband Dan of Danielsville, James J. Reeve Jr. and his wife Pat of Atlanta, Dr. John Paul Reeve and his wife Kelly of Duluth; grandchildren, John Bryan Reeve, Jenifer Elaine Reeve Dawkins and husband Jason; stepgrandson, Jeffrey David Williams Jr. and wife Crystal; brother, Charles W. Reeve and his wife Mildred of Marietta; sister-in-law, Ruth of Carrolton; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 23, at the First Baptist Church of Cumming with pastors Dr. Bob Jolly and Dr. Butch Franklin officiating. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 22, at Ingram Funeral Home in Cumming.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Dr. J. Jackson Reeve to the First Baptist Church of Cumming Building Fund, 1597 Sawnee Drive, Cumming, GA 30040.
